Former Owl Buttacavoli Earns Membership to Web.com Tour

HOUSTON — Former Rice golfer Michael Buttacavoli won the PGA Latinoamérica Tour Championship – Shell Championship over the weekend.
The victory vaulted Buttacavoli into third-place on the Latinoamérica Tour's Final Order of Merit, earning him membership onto the Web.com Tour for the 2019 season.
Buttacavoli went wire-to-wire, finishing 18-under par, one stroke in front of Evan Harmeling. The victory was his second of the season. He also won the BMW Jamaica Classic in May.
The 2010 Rice graduate held a three-stroke lead heading into the final four holes. After a bogey on the 15th hole, he parred holes 16 and 17 to hold a one-shot lead heading into No. 18. However, he matched Harmeling's birdie to preserve the victory.
With 92 career PGA TOUR Latinoamérica starts, the Miami Beach, Fla., native has played more events on the PGA Latinoamérica Tour than any other American. His third-place Order of Merit finish is also his top performance in his six full years on Tour. He previously finished 11th in 2017 and 13th in 2014.
