Series Notes
For the Defense
Rice held UTSA to 178 yards on Saturday night and only 101 over the final three quarters. It was the lowest total by an Owl defense since they limited Tulane to just 123 in 2013 and was the second-lowest total by a C-USA team this year (UTEP was held to 134 yards at Tennessee on September 15). After throwing for 187 yards last week vs. UTEP, the Roadrunners were held to just 43 yards through the air, the fewest yards passing allowed by the Owls since they joined C-USA in 2005. Junior co-captain Zach Abercrumbia was credited with a career-best nine tackles, including a pair for loss and a pair of quarterback hurries. Justin Bickham matched his career-high with three pass breakups, part of seven on the night for the Owls.
Regular Member of "Ray's 8"
Ray Guy candidate Jack Fox has been recognized by the award for the third time this year as one of Ray's 8. Each week during the season, the Augusta Sports Council releases a list of eight punters on Monday who are candidates for the awards punter of the week accolade. Fox was recognized for his efforts against Houston and Hawai'i and again this last week for his work vs. UTSA. He averaged 45.8 yards on six punts, two for better than 50 yards and placed four of six inside the Roadrunners 20, three of them inside the 10. He leads the conference with 10 punts of at least 50 yards this year, is tied for the lead with 13 punts inside the 20 (10 of them inside the 10) and is second with a 44.4 average. Rice is ranked seventh nationally in net punting (42.91).

Rice will return to the road the next two weekends before returning to Rice Stadium on November 3 to celebrate Homecoming.

Series Notes
- This is seventh meeting in the series with the schools having split the first six... Rice holds a 2-0 lead in games played at Rice Stadium.
- Rice made its debut in C-USA with a 45-26 loss at Legion Field in Birmingham in 2005.
- The Owls three wins in the series have come by a combined nine points, the last of them a 37-34 overtime win in Birmingham in 2013.
- Both of the Owls wins at Rice Stadium have come in the last minute.
- In 2006, the Owls survived an interception on their final drive to score with 3.5 seconds left and take a 34-33 victory. Chase Clement had a pass intercepted deep in UAB territory with 23 seconds left and the Blazers leading 33-27, but the ball was stripped on the return and recovered by OT Lute Barber. One play later, Clement hit Jarett Dillard on a fade in the end zone to give Todd Graham his first win in C-USA.
- In the last meeting at Rice Stadium, Jeremy Eddington's 22-yard run with 44 seconds left allowed the Owls to close 2010 on a winning note for their seniors, 28-23. UAB had moved in front with 5 minutes left. Sophomore QB Taylor McHargue led the Owls into position to win the game, but it was Eddington taking the snap in the Wild Owl formation to win the game.
- Rice's lone win in Birmingham came in overtime in 2013 as Luke Turner scored on a one-yard run after the Owls held UAB to a field goal thanks to a pair of sacks on the Blazer's possession.
