Golf Takes Third at Border Olympics

Laredo, Texas — Rice finished nine-under par to finish in third-place at the Border Olympics, played at the par-72, 7,125-yard Laredo Country Club.
Rice closed the first round with a three-under 285 before firing a season-best round six-under 282.
"I'm really proud of how the team played this week," said Rice head coach Justin Emil. "It's definitely a confidence builder to put two solid rounds together and the timing is good as we head into the final few tournament leading into conference."
Senior James Lee tied for 14th-place at three-under par. It was his second top-20 finish of the year and the fifth of his career. He fired a season-best 70 in the first round and followed that with a 71. He tied his career-low 36-hole score with a 141 and he now has six rounds of par or better this year and 21 for his career.
Freshman Will Voetsch tied for 19th-place at two-under par. He shot a career-best 68 in the first round before closing with a 74. His 36-hole score of 142 is a career-best and he now has five rounds of par or better on the year.
Junior Kevin Reilly and sophomore Mario Carmona tied for 22nd-place at one-under par. Reilly opened with a 74 before firing a 69 while Carmona began the tournament with a 73 with closed with a 70. Reilly has five rounds of par or better this year and 28 for his career and Carmona has a season-best seven rounds of par or better and 10 for his career.
Sophomore Mitchell Meissner tied for 52nd-place at three-over par, opening with a 75 before finishing with a 72. It is his second round of par or better this year and the eighth of his career.
Baylor took home the team title, finishing 20-under par, eight shots in front of second-place Houston. Lousiana-Lafayette's Haraldur Magnus won medalist honors at 10-under par.
Rice returns to the links March 21-22 when it travels to San Antonio, Texas for the Lone Star Invitational.
