Rice sophomore Lindsey Hodge completed an unbeaten opening weekend to the fall tennis season by racing to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Felicity Maltby of Texas Tech to capture the women's singles title at the Racquet Club of Midland Collegiate Invitational on Sunday in Midland Texas.
Hodge and Maltby had to wait out a rain delay of over two hours, but once on the court Hodge made quick work of the match, becoming the first Owl to win the women's singles title since Natalie Beazant in 2012.
Hodge and her Rice teammates will be back on the courts next weekend in familiar surroundings as they host their annual Fall Invitational at the George R. Brown Tennis Center, September 25-27.
