No. 2 Rice Falls to No. 6 Memphis in AAC Semifinals

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The second-seeded Rice Owls women's tennis team saw its run in the American Athletic Conference Championship end in the semifinals with a 4-2 loss to the sixth-seeded Memphis Tigers.
The Rice tandem of Darya Schwartzman and Nithesa Selvaraj were the first to strike in doubles, claiming court two with a score of 6-2 to put the Owls ahead in the doubles portion. A 6-2 win by Memphis at the first line came moments later to tie up doubles, followed by Memphis rallying to take the third court match, 6-4, to take a 1-0 lead into singles.
Memphis took a 2-0 lead after a 6-3, 6-0, victory on the fifth line, but Rice would strike back with Saara Orav's victory on the sixth court, 6-4, 6-1, to get on the board. Selvaraj would follow her moments later with a 6-1, 6-4, win, to tie the match at 2-2. However, Memphis's players at the second and first courts were up 5-3 in their second sets, and quickly won both matches to take the match at 4-2.
Rice will now await its postseason fate.
