HOUSTON--Rice golf coach Justin Emil announced the release of the Owls 2015-16 schedule, Thursday afternoon. The Owls will compete in at least 11 tournaments, including five in the state of Texas.
"I'm thrilled to announce our schedule for the 2015-16 season," said Emil. "We have a nice balance this year of tournaments both regionally and nationally that I believe will give our team a great amount of opportunity. This year we are co-hosting both a fall and spring tournament on golf courses that our guys play often in our rotation. That should give us an edge on the visiting teams and help build some momentum. We have a hungry group coming back this season along with a solid incoming class and I can't wait to get them in some competition."
Rice begins the season Sept. 14-15 at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate in Hattiesburg, Miss., hosted by Conference USA foe Southern Miss. It is the sixth consecutive year that the Owls open the year at the Sam Hall. The Owls look to improve on last year's 11th-place finish.
A month later, the Owls team with Houston and Sam Houston State to co-host the Bayou City Collegiate Classic in Pearland at Golfcrest Country Club, Oct. 12-13.
Rice then travels to Vero Beach, Fla., for the Quail Valley Intercollegiate, Oct. 24-25 and hosted by McNeese State. Rice looks to improve on last year's 13th-place finish.
The Owls close the fall slate, Nov. 2-4, at the Charleston Southern hosted Kiawah Classic in Kiawah Island, S.C.
The spring campaign begins Feb. 19-21 at the All-American. Rice co-hosts the event with Houston, which will be played in Humble, Texas at the Golf Club of Houston. This will be the 38th time that the Owls will participate in the event, and the first since 2012.
A week later, the squad travels to Cabo, Mexico for the Querencia Cabo Intercollegiate, Feb. 28-Mar. 1. Last year, the Owls took home 14th-place. It then makes its first trip to Laredo since 2013 for the Border Olympics, Mar. 11-12, when it finished in 11th-place.
Rice then makes the trek to San Antonio for the Lone Star Invitational, Mar. 21-22, hosted by C-USA foe UTSA. Last year, it finished in 14-place place.
The Owls then travel to Franklin, Tenn., for the Mason Rudolph Championship, hosted by Vanderbilt on Apr. 2-3. It is the first time competing in the tournament since 2014 when they tied for 12th-place,
Rice closes the regular season on Apr. 11-12 in Austin at the Jim West Intercollegiate, where it tied for 10th-place last year.
The Conference USA Championship will take place in Texarkana, Ark., for the second consecutive year and the fifth time overall, Apr. 24-27. Last year, Rice tied for 12th-place,
NCAA Regionals take place May 16-18 at campus sites, with Oregon hosting the NCAA Championship in Eugene, Ore., from May 27-June 1.
