Golf Signs A Pair for 2016-17

HOUSTON—Rice men's golf coach Justin Emil has announced the signing of Trevor Brown (Austin, Texas) and Nicholas Duggan (San Antonio, Texas) to national letters of intent for the 2016-17 school year, Thursday morning.
Brown, from Westlake High School in Austin, is averaging 72.5 strokes so far in his senior season. He also tied for second at the Four Points Shootout, shooting 76-68, leading Westlake to the title. He also tied for sixth at the Fall State Preview with consecutive 73's.
Brown helped Westlake to the Region II-5A and 6A championships the past two years. They were the state runner-ups in 2015, while helping them to the state championship in 2014. This past summer, he fired a 70-64-65/199 to win the Texas Junior Golf Tour (TJGT) Texas Junior Masters. He tied for fourth at the 2015 American Junior Golf Association's (AJGA) Aaron/Bob Estes Abilene Junior. He also earned ninth and fourth-place finishes at the 2013 and 2014 Texas Junior Masters.
Brown earned top five finishes at the 2014 Holiday Classic (t4th) and the AJGA Junior All-Star at Hot Springs Village (5th).He also shot 73-77/150 to tie for seventh-place at the 2014 Traditions Fall Invitational. He was also Academic All-District all four years.
Duggan, from Sandra Day O'Connor High School, is averaging 74.5 strokes this year. He recently won the TLJT George Hannon Invitational, the AJGA Kansas Junior and lost in a playoff at the AJGA David Toms Junior. In May, Duggan tied for second at the TJGT Texas Junior Masters, firing a 70-71-65/206. He also tied for fourth at the 2014 Legends Junior Tour Spring Preview, carding consecutive even par 72's. He was named O'Connor Golfer of the Year as well as the O'Connor Most Valuable Player Award.

Both are excellent students and exceptional golfers. They both possess the high character traits that we look for in our student-athletes. Nicholas has a lot of power and has won on the national level. Trevor has also won some bigtime tournaments and has a game that is well suited for collegiate golf. I can't wait to get these two on campus in the fall."
