Golf in 17th-Place after Day One of Kiawah Classic

Kiawah Island, S.C.—The Rice golf team is in 17th-place after Day One of the Kiawah Classic, played at the par 72, 7,100-yard Turtle Point Golf Course.
"The course tests you off the tee and that was mostly where we struggled," said head coach Justin Emil. "There's a lot of golf to play and we'll learn from our mistakes."
Kevin Reilly is tied for 28th-place at one-over par after carding a 73. Will Voetsch posted a 74 to sit in a tie for 42nd-place at two-over par. James Lee is tied for 52nd-place at three-over par after shooting a 75.
Mario Carmona is tied for 95th-place at seven-over par after carding a 79. Trey Johnson shot an eight-over par 80 to sit in a tie for 102nd-place and Jay Burlison is tied for 111th-place at 11-over par after posting an 83.
Host Charleston Southern leads the team competition at one-under par, two strokes ahead of Virginia and Augusta. There's a three-way tie for the individual tournament between Charleston Southern's R.J. Keur, Augusta's Robin Petersson and Nick Brediger of Radfor at four-under par.
