Owls Open Day One At Howie Ryan Invite

HOUSTON, Texas - The Rice Owls men's track team opened up competition at their second indoor meet of the season Friday, sending a handful of athletes to the Howie Ryan Invitational.
Scott Filip, a freshman from Roselle, Illinois, highlighted the day for the Owls and will enter competition on Saturday in second place in the heptathlon. Filip won the high jump (6-05.00), placed second in both the 60m dash (7.08) and long jump (22-08.00) and finished fifth in the shot put (40-03.50).
Redshirt freshman Filip Drozdowski ran unattached in the 60m hurdles and placed 12th in the prelims with a qualifying time of 8.32. He was followed by Chris Sanders (UNAT- 8.45), Ben Pressley (8.64) and Berk Norman (8.71).
Senior Breland Coleman finished 27th in the 400m dash (53.67).
UP NEXT
Rice continues competition during day two of the Howie Ryan Invitational Saturday morning. The men's heptathlon wraps up the last three events beginning with the 60m hurdles at 10 a.m. Running events will begin at noon with the 60m hurdles semi-finals.
