2010-11 Rice Golf Schedule
A schedule balanced with regional and national events will challenge the Rice golf team as the Owls vie for a second straight appearance competing at the NCAA Championship during the 2010-11 season.
Rice will take part in five events this fall and play in six tournaments during a spring season capped by the Conference USA Championship. The C-USA Championship moves back to Texarkana Country Club in Texarkana, Ark., after two years being played outside of Orlando.
The Owls open the fall season at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate which will be hosted by C-USA rival Southern Miss at Hattiesburg Country Club. A week later, Rice will defend its 2009 UTA/Waterchase Invitational championship when the Owls travel to the tournament played in the DFW Metroplex.
Highlighting the second month of the fall season is the Rod Myers Invitational played at Duke University Golf Club as well as the LSU-hosted David Toms Intercollegiate played at the Country Club of Louisiana.
Rice opens the spring season at the UTSA Oak Hills Invitational Feb. 14-15 in San Antonio.
The Owls will defend a second championship from last season when the squad plays host to the 11th annual Rice Intercollegiate presented by Srixon. The home tournament played at Westwood Golf Club is set or Feb. 21-22.
The spring season also includes an annual trek to the Border Olympics played at the Laredo Country Club as well as a return to The Bankcorp South Intercollegiate hosted by Ole Miss at Reunion Golf and Country Club in Madison, Miss.
"I am very excited about the 2010-11 schedule," said Rice University golf coach Drew Scott who begins his sixth season. "It is a good mix of regional events as well as national tournaments in which we will compete against teams from outside of our district and region. I am optimistic we will continue to grow and have the kind of success we had last season."
Rice received an at-large bid to the 2010 NCAA Championships, taking part in the regional hosted by Texas A&M at the Traditions Club. Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Indiana, San Diego and Virginia Tech will play host to the six NCAA Regionals in 2011. Oklahoma State will play host to the NCAA Championship Finals May 31-June 5 at Karsten Creek in Stillwater, Okla.
