Carter Plantation Intercollegiate Final Results
SPRINGFIELD, La. - Rice was in the hunt all day but fell just short of its second team title of the fall season as the Owls finished second at the Carter Plantation Intercollegiate Tuesday. The tournament wrapped up the fall season for the squad.
Rice headed into Tuesday's final round with a one stroke lead against the 13-team field. Rice would struggle over the final two holes of the final round, opening the door for Louisiana-Lafayette to win the tournament by two strokes. The Ragin' Cajuns shot a 290 on Tuesday for a three-round score of 870. Rice shot a 292 for the final round and an 871 for the tournament.
Rice finished a stroke ahead of Central Arkansas and first-round leader New Orleans who tied for third.
Rice freshman Jade Scott shot a 71 to finish with a three-round score of 216 (E). He finished in a tie for eighth along with teammates Christopher Brown and Michael Buttacavoli. Brown shot a 74 on Tuesday while Buttacavoli carded a 73 for his final round.
In addition to its team championship at the UTA/Waterchase Invitational, the Owls had three other Top-5 finishes during the fall season.
"We really only had one bad tournament and shot 300 just once this season," said Rice coach Drew Scott. "We had several wonderful rounds and had a lot of great individual performances. We beat some quality golf teams this fall and really established ourselves as a golf team on the rise."
The Owls return to action in the spring starting with the 10th Annual Rice Intercollegiate presented by Srixon Feb. 15-16 at Westwood Golf Club.
