So far this fall season, playing in Louisiana has agreed with the Rice golf team.
The Owls posted a fourth-place finish at the Louisiana Tech/Squire Creek Intercollegiate earlier in the season and are coming off a tie for fifth last week at the David Toms Intercollegiate hosted by Louisiana State at the Country Club of Louisiana in Baton Rouge.
Rice closes out the fall season Monday and Tuesday traveling back to Louisiana for the Carter Plantation Intercollegiate hosted by Southeastern Louisiana University in Springfield, La. The tournament is being played at the site of the 2010 Southland Conference Golf Championship and will draw heavily from the league's membership. Also represented are teams from the Ohio Valley Conference and Sun Belt Conference.
Rice tied for fifth at the David Toms Intercollegiate with this week's tournament host, Southeastern Louisiana. The Owls closed out last week's tournament with a 279 and Rice freshman Jade Scott carded a final-round 65 to capture the individual championship.
"We have had two, Top 5 finishes in Louisiana this year," said Rice coach Drew Scott. "It's the last event of the fall and I know our guys want to end the season on a positive note. Plus, we are playing against four teams who have had a win against us at one point or another this fall and I know we would like to avenge those losses."
The Owls will travel the same players from last week's tournament at LSU.
Scott leads the team with a 71.75 stroke average. He has two, Top 10 finishes in addition to his win at LSU during the fall. Junior Michael Whitehead is averaging 72.67 strokes per round and has three, Top 20 finishes including a Top 5. Senior Michael Buttacavoli has a 72.75 stroke average and has a pair of Top 10 finishes.
Rounding out the Owls' squad for this week is Christopher Brown and Robert Burrow.
The Carter Plantation Intercollegiate is set for 36 holes of play Monday with a shotgun start. Tuesday's final round will have players going off the First and 10th tees beginning at 7:50 a.m.
