Soccer: Just For Kicks! Meet The Rice Soccer Team

This season fans will have a chance to get to know a little more about the members of the Rice soccer team in the new feature, Just For Kicks! Today's Owl is senior Sarah Yoder.

A native of Helotes, Tex., Yoder is one of the program's original signees from 2001. She is the school record holder for goals scored, adding the 19th of her career in the Owls' 1-0 win at Northwestern State on Sunday. The veteran forward/midfielder is a member of Baker College.

Did you know? Yoder has started every game in the history of the Rice soccer program, a total of 59 and counting.

The nickname my teammates call me: Yodes

My favorite sport besides soccer: volleyball, basketball and track

My favorite class at Rice: Nutrition

My favorite meal at the Rice servery: roasted pork tenderloin

My favorite snack: popcorn

My favorite movie: The Last Samuri

My favorite Coach Huston saying: "Sweet!"

My pet peeve: knuckle popping

I chose to attend Rice because: I had the chance to start a new program and watch that program develop into something great.

What's the best thing about playing college soccer: The girls on the team. We are all such good friends get along really well.

One soccer player I would like to meet: Thierry Henry

Other than soccer, the Rice team I like to watch play their sport: the men's Basketball team

The person who got me interested in soccer: my dad

The most embarrassing soccer moment or thing that ever happened to me: I accidently flashed the stands last year at the WAC tournament. I was just subbed out and it was cold and rainy, so I wanted to change into dry clothes but didn't want to wait the five minutes for the game to end. I didn't think anyone could see me through the plastic bench covering. Apparently it was see-through and the entire Hawaii bench saw me strip. Oops!

Does your jersey number have any significance? I used to always be number 14 but when I changed club teams someone already had 14. So I picked 19 because it was still in the teens.

I describe myself as: quiet

My teammates think I am: a crazy nut head who runs all the time.

The Rice Owls who will take our fans by surprise: Clory Martin and Caitlin Robbins.
