Owls Fall to No. 12 UNC in Chapel Hill

CHAPEL HILL – The Rice soccer team dropped a road contest against the defending national champion, falling 4-0 to No. 12 North Carolina Sunday afternoon at Dorrance Field in Chapel Hill, N.C. The Owls are handed their first loss of the season, falling to 2-1, while UNC moves to 2-2.
How It Happened
The Tar Hells went on the offensive right out the gate, rattling off several shots in the opening minutes before scoring the game's first goal just shy of the 10-minute mark. Rice's defensive fended off several more attempts, but once again, UNC broke through with nine minutes left in the half to double the lead. Allie Love looked to get the Owls on the board, but her shot sailed high as the two went into the half with UNC up 2-0.
The offensive production for North Carolina continued in the second half, tacking on two more goals to take a 4-0 lead. Eileen Albers and Jadyn Jaeger had the final chances for the Owls, but two great defensive stops by UNC kept Rice off the board.
