Colby Meeks joined the women’s tennis staff in August of 2018 as the Owls' new assistant coach.
A native of San Angelo, Texas, Meeks returned to the state after serving as an assistant coach at New Mexico for two years where he handled all matters of on-the-court coaching as well as scheduling and recruiting.
Meeks came to UNM from the Cameron University in Oklahoma where he served for nearly two years as a graduate assistant tennis coach for both the men's and women's programs in Lawton, Oklahoma. With Cameron, he assisted in the logistical planning of travel and recruiting, handled practice schedules and on-the-court coaching, strength programs, and assisted with fundraising and facility management.
With Cameron, he was honored by the ITA as both the men's and women's ITA South Central Region Assistant Coach of the Year, and he helped Cameron advance to the Elite Eight on the men's side and the regional qualifiers on the women's side.
He has also served as an assistant tennis professional at San Angelo Country Club and Wichita Falls Country Club.
Meeks played for Tyler Junior College before moving on to Midwestern State, where he advanced to the NCAA Division II quarterfinals after helping his team to a Lone Star Conference championship. Meeks was named the Lone Star Newcomer of the Year and was All-Conference in doubles, moving up as high as No. 9 in the national rankings. At Tyler, he helped the team to an NJCAA National title, and an NJCAA runner-up finish.
