Bio
2023: Made 17 appearances (2 starts) in his return to action after sitting out the 2022 season with an injury and closed his career by posting a 3.77 ERA with 21 strikeouts over his last seven relief appearances (14.1,16,7,6,2,21)... Averaged 11.4 strikeouts and 2.2 walks per nine innings… Made his debut with a scoreless inning vs. Louisiana 2/19, nearly one year to the day he left his appearance at Texas after facing two hitters and missed the remainder of the year… Worked a season-high 3.1 innings in relief and fanned a season-best six vs. UTSA on 3/26... ... Made his first start since the end of the 2021 season, in the final game of the UAB series… His last start was on 4/2 at FAU (2.2,5,4,4,1,3).
2022: Made one appearance at Texas (2/20) but exited after facing a pair of hitters and missed the remainder of the season.
2021: Third on the team with 10 starts, posting a 3-5 mark and 5.07 ERA… Closed strongly, posting a 2.29 ERA over his last three starts (5 ER in 19.2 IP), highlighted by his first career shutout and complete game, blanking UAB 7-0 (7,5,0,0,04)… Tossed a career-best eight innings in his final outing of the year vs. Charlotte (5/15)… Picked up his first career win on 3/12 over Northern Illinois at Reckling Park … Win his second straight while striking out a career-best 10 vs. Southern on 3/19… Allowed four homers in 71 innings, three of them in one game (vs. UTSA on 3/26).
2020: Had been building on promotion to weekend starter with some sound and solid outings, including the team, lead in both starts (4) and strikeouts (18), when the collegiate season came to an abrupt halt… With just one outing and an austere 1.1 innings of experience garnered from his debut season of 2019, Brogdon was a bit of a surprise to be tabbed as the Game 2 starter for the season-opening series against the nationally-ranked Texas Longhorns - but proved he indeed deserved the honor… Scattered three hits while working into the sixth inning against the heavy-hitting Longhorns… He finished with a career-long 5.2 innings vs. UT, but took the loss as his teammates on the offensive side did not support him with a single run… The following week he struck out a career-high eight in 5.0 innings at west coast power UC Irvine (Feb. 22), then pitched another 5.0 innings in a home start against Missouri State (Feb. 29)… In four total starts, he held opposing hitters to a composite .194 batting average with 8.4 strikeouts per 9.0 innings of work… Finished second on the staff in innings (19.1) and was third in ERA (4.19).
2019: Made one appearance in his first collegiate season… Pitched 1.1 innings out of the bullpen on the road at longtime rival Texas State.
Before Rice: A 2018 graduate of Cypress Woods High School, just northwest of Houston… Three-year varsity starter… Coached by Kipp Pridgeon… Went 7-1 with a 2.60 ERA to lead the Wildcats to a 24-16-1 record and the quarterfinals of the 6A Region III state tournament… Helped the team reach the second round of the state tournament as a junior in 2017… Three-time member of the District 17-6A All-Academic Team.
