Owls host Lamar on Tuesday at 6:35

Wichita- Wichita State jumped out to an early lead and answered each of Rice's challenges as the Shockers rolled to a 13-3 win in seven innings on Sunday.

How it Happened: The Shockers took an early 3-0 lead in the second, but the Owls struck back in the fifth. Masa Chilcutt opened the inning with a double to right center, and Zachary Daigre reached for the second straight game with an infield single to the first baseman. Cole Green brought Chilcutt home with a single to left, and Daigre dashed to third. Green stole second to put the tying run at second, but a pair of Shocker relievers delivered a strikeout to end the threat. Wichita State answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Rice responded by loading the bases in the sixth, but could only score on a fielder's choice as a double play ended the frame. The Shockers extended the lead to 9-2 with four runs in the bottom of the sixth and Rice answered with one in the top of the seventh. Daigre opened with a single to right, his sixth hit in nine at-bats over the weekend, and eventually scored on a Paul Smith's ground ball to the pitcher, as he beat the wide throw to the plate. WSU then closed out the game with three runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Next Up: Rice returns home for a four-game homestand that will feature a midweek matchup with Lamar on Tuesday (6:35 p.m.) and continues with a three-game weekend series against UAB, which opens at 6:35 on Friday.

Notes

The Owls fell to 25-20 on the season, 12-10 on the road, and 4-7 all-time at Eck Stadium.
Daigre came into the weekend with three hits in 18 at bats this season, but was 6x9 with a walk.
Smith drove in his 13^th run in his last 12 games, but saw his 11-game on-base streak come to an end.
Garet Boehm was 2x4 with a double, his first multi-hit game since March 14 vs. Grand Canyon.
