HARVARD WEEKEND CLOSES HOMESTAND: Rice closes a short four-game homestand and the month of February by hosting the Harvard Crimson at Reckling Park this weekend. Game times are set for 6:35 on Friday, 4:05 on Saturday, and 12:05 on Sunday.
PITCHING PROBABLES:
Friday: LHP Brayden Sharp (1-1, 6.52) vs. RHP Gio Colasante (0-1, 9.00)
Saturday: RHP Ryland Urbanczyk (0-1, 1.69) vs. LHP Luca Alagheband (0-0, 5.40)
Sunday: RHP Ethan Sanders (0-1, 3.07) vs. RHP Andrew Abler (0-0, 4.50)
LAST FOR A WHILE: This weekend's series will the last for the Owls at home until the middle of March as they will play midweek road games at Lamar (March 4) and Houston (March 10) and weekend series at Abilene Christian (March 7-9) and then a four-game set in Phoenix, Arizona against Saint Mary's and Grand Canyon (March 13-15). Rice returns to Reckling on St. Patrick's Day to host UTRGV.
DAVIS LEADS THE WAY: JC Davis homered in his first at-bat as an Owl on Opening Day and has carried that power pace through the first nine games. He has reached in all nine, hit in eight of nine (including the last five straight) and ranks at the top of most offensive categories in the American Conference. He leads the league in slugging percentage (.971) and OPS (1.523), is tied for the lead with 16 hits and four home runs, ranks second in average (.485), and is tied for second with four doubles. He has six multi-hit efforts in the first nine games.
RICE VS. HARVARD: Rice holds an 8-3 lead in the overall series against Harvard, but the Crimson have one three of the last four. The schools first met in a three-game series on March 16 &17,2002, playing
a doubleheader on the first day. The Owls and Crimson met later that same year in the opening game of the Rice Regional of the NCAA Baseball Championship, with Rice winning 8-3. Rice swept a three-game series in 2013, before Harvard broke through by winning the first three games of a four-game series in 2022. The Owls took the finale 9-6, rolling out to a 9-2 lead and slamming the door on any further rallies as Matthew Linskey struck out the side in the ninth.
