Owls Blanked in Series Opener
2/21/2026 12:27:00 AM | Baseball
Game two set for 8:05 Saturday
Los Angeles-USC's Mason Edwards held Rice hitless over six innings and his Trojan teammates broke open a tight contest with three runs in the seventh to down the Owls 5-0 in the series opener at Dedeaux Field on Friday night.
How it Happened: Edwards walked Rice's Hiram Bocachica Jr. to open the game and then retired 17 consecutive Owls before Bocachica worked him for a second walk in the sixth. Rice's Brayden Sharp held the hot-hitting Trojans, who came into the game hitting .468 in their first four games, to just a pair of runs in 4.1 innings. Cole Green extended his career-best hitting streak to six games with a single in the seventh to pick up the Owls' first hit of the game, but Rice could not advance a runner to second and was shut out for the second time this season.
Next Up: Rice and USC will be back in action on Saturday at 8:05 before wrapping the series at 2:05 on Sunday. The Owls return to Reckling next Tuesday to host HCU at 6:35.
