
Gannon, Marais Close Rice’s Stay at NCAA West Prelims

COLLEGE STATION – The Rice men's track and field team closed their stay at the NCAA West Prelims Friday afternoon, with two athletes closing their stellar seasons in College Station.
The Owls will have one athlete advancing to Eugene, Oregon, for the NCAA Championships on June 11, with Jack Greaves qualifying in the javelin.
Gus Gannon made his second consecutive appearance at the NCAA West Prelims, finishing 35th in the steeplechase with a time of 9:08.32
In the discus, freshman Juan Marais closed his stellar freshman season in 46th with a throw of 49.44m.
WEDNESDAY'S RECAP
Greaves continues his stellar redshirt-freshman campaign, finishing seventh in the javelin with a personal best throw of 72.17m to qualify for the NCAA Championship meet in Eugene, Oregon. The throw moves him up to third all-time at Rice.
Augustus Henry and Aryan Padaruth closed out their seasons with Henry finishing 20th with a throw of 65.90m, while Padaruth was 24th with a throw of 65.20m, both in the javelin.
Cal Abdulky closed his outdoor career finishing 34th in the hammer throw with a throw of 61.14m, his third consecutive year qualifying for the NCAA West Prelims for the event.
