Owls Find Success in Shortened Meet at UH

HOUSTON – The Rice men's track and field team saw strong performances throughout the two-day meet this weekend at the Tom Tellez Invite at UH. The meet was shortened on Saturday due to inclement weather.
Juan Marais had another great showing in his freshman season, having another personal best in the discus to claim the event title. His throw of 58.28m moved him into fourth all-time at Rice. The throw currently ranks second in the AAC and 10th in the NCAA West Region.
Augustus Henry had a tremendous showing in the javelin, with a personal best mark of 65.40m, which ranks sixth all-time at Rice. The mark ranks third in the AAC and 22nd in the NCAA West Region.
Cal Abdulky finished third in the hammer throw, while Daniel Sowell took fourth in the shot put.
Several field events and most of the running events did not take place on Saturday.
