Owls Blanked by Blazers
4/25/2025 11:00:00 PM | Baseball
Game two set for 2 p.m. Saturday
Birmingham: Davion Hickson and UAB's Colin Daniel traded strikeouts for seven innings, but a first-inning run by the Blazers and a pair of late add-ons provided UAB the winning formula in a 3-0 win on Friday night at Young Memorial Field.
How it Happened: In his return to the series opener starter role after two weeks in the bullpen, Hickson matched his career high with 10 strikeouts and took a 1-0 game into the eighth before UAB scored two runs with two out. He allowed a single to Logan Braunschweig to open the bottom of the first and did not allow another until the sixth. Braunschweig made the most of his initial opportunity, stealing second and then moving to third on a fly out before scoring what proved to be the only run Daniel would need on a ground out. He scattered three hits, a one-out single by Colin Robson in the third, and two-out singles by Michael Zito in the fourth and Cole Green in the eighth.
Up Next: The Owls and Blazers meet in the middle game of the series at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
