Reckling Park: UTRGV broke a 1-1 tie with five runs in the fourth and rolled to a 20-5 win over Rice in seven innings at Reckling Park on Wednesday night.
How it Happened: After a scoreless top of the first by opener Von Baker, Rice took its only lead of the day by scoring the game's first run in the bottom of the first. Hiram Bocachica Jr. led off the game with a walk, and one out later, he moved to second on a single by fellow freshman Michael Zito. He moved to third on a line out to right by Landon West and then scored on an infield single by Tobias Motley. Jacob Devenny followed with another single, but Zito was thrown out at the plate to end the inning. The Owls added three runs in the sixth on RBI singles by Devenny and Collin Robson. Cole Green added the third run after pinch-running for Devenny He stole third and came home on an errant throw by the catcher. Rice added its final run in the bottom of the seventh as Paul Smith reached on a pinch-hit single and came around to score on a pinch-hit single by Barrett Eldridge.
Up Next: Rice will be back in conference action this weekend with three games in New Orleans against Tulane, beginning on Friday at 6:30.
