Host Houston on Tuesday to close out homestand
Reckling Park: Jackson Blank and Jack Ben-Shoshan shackled a USF offense that had scored 14 runs on Friday to just two and Rice used an opportunistic offense to manufacture five runs and clinch the series with the Bulls on Sunday.
How it Happened: The start of the game was delayed by 11 minutes for the removal of a bee hive that had begun to form in the USF dugout earlier in the morning. Once play began, Blank held USF scoreless in its first two innings and his Owls' teammates scratched out a pair of runs in the bottom of the second. Hiram Bocachica Jr. worked a one-out walk and then advanced to third on Aric Anderson's single through the hole between third and short when Bocachica broke on the pitch. Graiden West reached on an error by the pitcher after laying down a bunt that allowed Bocachica to score the game's first run and Anderson to move third. Colin Robson's sacrifice bunt brought Anderson home to make the score 2-0. Jackson Blank, who was making the first weekend start of his career, allowed one run in the third but worked out of further trouble, striking out Jackson Mayo with runners at second and third and two outs. His teammates rewarded his efforts by adding two runs in their half of the third after two were out. Treyton Rank hit an infield single to third and Jacob Devenny followed with a single to right to move Rank to third. Bocachica walked for the second time in the game to load the bases. Aric Anderson followed with a hard shot to second that was ruled an error that allowed both Rank and Bocachica to score. Colin Robson led off the fourth with a double down the line in right and came home to score on an RBI single by Blaine Brown. After USF put the runners at the corners to start the fifth, Jack Ben-Shoshan came on in relief of Blank and ended the inning with only one run scoring. He went on to hold USF hitless until the ninth, when the Bulls pieced together two hits with one out, but he retired the final two hitters on ground balls to pick up his first win of the season.
Up Next: Rice will host Houston in the final game of the 2025 Silver Glove series on Tuesday before playing on the road the next two weekends at Memphis and UAB.
