AAC Opener up next
Reckling Park: Incarnate Word put 11 singles to effective use, scratching out four runs to down Rice 4-2 at Reckling Park on Tuesday night.
How it Happened: The Cardinals capitalized on a throwing error by opener Blaine Brown in the first inning to claim a 2-0 lead in the opening inning, but Jack Ben-Shoshan came on to end their early threat and after he worked a scoreless second inning, the Owls scored twice to tie the game. Jacob Devenny singled, and Trey Duffield walked to open the frame, and both moved up 90 feet on a sac bunt by Michael Zito. Treyton Rank pushed a ground ball the other way to score Devenny and Max Johnson found the hole between first and second to bring in Duffield and knot the game at 2-2. Ben-Shoshan worked a season-best 2.1 scoreless innings, but UIW scratched out a run in the fourth and added a fourth run in the seventh while holding the Owls off the scoreboard. Nolan Roycraft came on in the seventh with one run in and two on but worked out of the jam and held the Cardinals off the board the rest of the way while working a career-best 2.2 innings. Rice repeatedly threatened over the final five innings, but stranded seven runners.
Up Next: New head coach David Pierce will officially be introduced at an 11:30 press conference on Wednesday, and they hold his first practice with the Owls on Wednesday afternoon. Rice will travel to Boca Raton, Florida on Thursday to open the 2025 AAC schedule with a three-game series against Florida Atlantic, beginning with at 5:30 ( central) on Friday.
