
Rice to Face RV Oregon in First Road Trip of the Year

HOUSTON — Rice goes on the road for the first time this season when it travels to Eugene, Ore., to face Oregon, this Friday, Nov. 7. Tip-off is scheduled for 9 p.m. CT and the game will be streamed by Big Ten Network+.

Scouting Rice
• Rice enters Friday night's game with a 1-0 record after defeating the College of Biblical Studies, 109-38, in its season opener.
• Rice returns seven letterwinners and two starters from last year's squad.
• Graduate guard Trae Broadnax led the Owls last year in scoring, averaging 12.1 points per game. He was also second in rebounding with 5.1 per game while leading the team and placing fifth in the American with 4.2 assists.
• Senior forward Andrew Akuchie averaged 6.0 points per game and was third on the team in rebounding, averaging 4.9 per game while connecting on 53.0% from the field.
• Rice has added nine newcomers to this year's roster, including three freshmen, five transfers, and one junior college transfer.
• The five transfers include guards Dallas Hobbs (Dallas, Texas/Mount St. Mary's), Presley Patterson (Knoxville, Tenn./Auburn) and Jordan Williams (Houston, Texas/Vanderbilt), guard/forward Nick Anderson (Houston, Texas/Prairie View A&M), and center Stephen Giwa (Houston, Texas/Texas A&M-Corpus Christi).
• The freshmen are guards Cam Carroll (Grand Prairie, Texas) and guard Bodey Howell (Meridian, Id.), and forward Evan Cochran (Houston, Texas).
• Also joining the team is junior college forward Eternity Eguagie (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada/Colby [Kan.] CC).
• Redshirt senior guard Jalen Smith (Orlando, Fla.) will make his first appearance after redshirting last year.
• Rice averaged 70.3 points per game last year while also allowing 70.3.
• The Owls connected on 42.1% from the field and 33.0% from three. Their opponents connected on 42.0% from the floor and 32.3% from behind the arc.
• Rice outrebounded its opponents, 38.2-to-34.9.
• Head coach Rob Lanier is in his second season at the helm of the Rice men's basketball program.

• Oregon enters Friday's tilt with a 1-0 record after earning a 60-59 victory over Hawaii in its season opener.
• Oregon is receiving votes in both the Associated Press and Coaches polls.
• The Ducks return seven letterwinners, including two starters from last year's squad that went 25-10 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament Second Round.
• UO returns three impact players from last year's postseason run: Nate Bittle, Jackson Shelstad and Kwame Evans Jr.
• Bittle led the Ducks with 14.2 points per game in 2024-25, adding 7.6 rebounds, 2.1 blocks and 1.9 assists per game. He shot 51.1% from the field, 33.6% from three-point range and 81.1% from the free throw line. Bittle blocked a Big Ten-high 74 shots and his 2.1 blocks per game ranked second in the conference.
• Shelstad averaged 13.7 points (.451 FG%, .379 3P%, .835 FT%), 2.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.0 steals in a team leading 32.9 minutes per game.
• Evans Jr. played in all 35 games and averaged 6.1 points (.465 FG%) and 4.6 rebounds in 16.3 minutes off the bench.
• Head coach Dana Altman is in his 16th season at the helm of the Oregon men's basketball program, where he has a 371-162 record. In 36 seasons as a head coach, Altman is 781-405.
Rice-Oregon Series History
• Rice and Oregon will meet for the fifth time overall, with the Ducks holding a 3-1 record.
• The teams will meet for the first time since 2006.
• Rice is looking for its first victory over the Ducks since a 61-59 win in Eugene in 1956-57.
• Oregon then won the next three meetings.
