Men’s Basketball Holds First Practice of 2026-27 Season

HOUSTON — The third season Rob Lanier era began this afternoon as Rice held its first official basketball practice of the 2026-27 season in Tudor Fieldhouse.
The Owls returns seven letterwinners from last year's squad, while welcoming nine newcomers to the team.
"What I like about this group is that there is a competitive spirit that's been pretty consistent day-to-day," said head coach Rob Lanier. "I think that gives us a foundation for growth. We've been practicing. The first day of practice is different than it used to be. There is a foundation in place for us to really become a good team. We've got a long way to go, but I do like the group."
Rice begins the 2026-27 campaign on Nov. 2 when it hosts Dallas Christian.
