Men’s Basketball Opens 2025-26 Season against the College of Biblical Studies

HOUSTON — Rice begins the second season of the Rob Lanier era this Tuesday, Nov. 4, when it hosts the College of Biblical Studies. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT and the game will be streamed by ESPN+.

Scouting Rice
• Rice returns seven letterwinners and two starters from last year's squad.
• Graduate guard Trae Broadnax led the Owls last year in scoring, averaging 12.1 points per game. He was also second in rebounding with 5.1 per game while leading the team and placing fifth in the American with 4.2 assists.
• Senior forward Andrew Akuchie averaged 6.0 points per game and was third on the team in rebounding, averaging 4.9 per game while connecting on 53.0% from the field.
• Rice has added nine newcomers to this year's roster, including three freshmen, five transfers, and one junior college transfer.
• The five transfers include guards Dallas Hobbs (Dallas, Texas/Mount St. Mary's), Presley Patterson (Knoxville, Tenn./Auburn) and Jordan Williams (Houston, Texas/Vanderbilt), guard/forward Nick Anderson (Houston, Texas/Prairie View A&M), and center Stephen Giwa (Houston, Texas/Texas A&M-Corpus Christi).
• The freshmen are guards Cam Carroll (Grand Prairie, Texas) and guard Bodey Howell (Meridian, Id.), and forward Evan Cochran (Houston, Texas).
• Also joining the team is junior college forward Eternity Eguagie (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada/Colby [Kan.] CC).
• Redshirt senior guard Jalen Smith (Orlando, Fla.) will make his first appearance after redshirting last year.
• Rice averaged 70.3 points per game last year while also allowing 70.3.
• The Owls connected on 42.1% from the field and 33.0% from three. Their opponents connected on 42.0% from the floor and 32.3% from behind the arc.
• Rice outrebounded its opponents, 38.2-to-34.9.
• Head coach Rob Lanier is in his second season at the helm of the Rice men's basketball program.

• The College of Biblical Studies enters Tuesday night's game with a 1-3 record.
• Freshman guard Omani Ozenne leads the Ambassadors in scoring, averaging 17.8 points per game. He's third in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) in assists with 5.3 per game, and is connecting on 37.5% from three and 89.5% from the free throw line.
• Freshman guard Trayvon Martinez is second on the team with 12.3 points per game and third with 5.3 rebounds.
• Sophomore guard Darion Ramos is scoring 10.8 points. He's connecting on 45.7% from the field and 41.7% from three.
• Freshman forward Alvin Kay is averaging 9.5 points and leads the team and is fifth in the league with 11.3 rebounds per game.
• CBS is averaging 67.5 points per game while allowing 78.3.
• The Ambassadors are connecting on 41.0% from the field and 31.6% from three. They are allowing just 38.6% from the field and 22.5% from three, which are both third in the NCCAA.
• The College of Biblical Studies is being outrebounded by its opponents, 50.0-to-33.5.
• It also leads the league in blocks, averaging 6.0 per game.
