Memphis Rallies to Take Series

Finale set for 1 p.m. on Sunday
Houston: Memphis came back from an early 3-0 deficit to take a 5-4 decision and clinch the series with Rice on Saturday at Reckling Park.
The Details: Despite playing a marathon 15-inning contest on Friday night, both teams jumped on the scoreboard early. Rice matched its top scoring effort in the first inning this season by scoring three in the Owls opening inning, thanks to four straight hits with two outs. Jack Riedel, who had doubled with one out, opened the scoring one out later on an RBI single by Nathan Becker. Eric Correa sent Becker to third with a single to right and Becker scored on a bunt single by Ben Dukes. Tobias Motley completed the scoring by driving in Correa with a double to left. Memphis answered with three runs in the top of the second on only one hit. The Tigers loaded the based on a hit batter and two walks, scored their first run on a ground out and then tied it with a two-run double. Rice responded with a single run to re-take the lead in the bottom of the second on Treyton Rank's RBI double. The game remained tied until the fifth when the Tigers again loaded the bases with a hit batter and two walks. They tied the game on a double play and then scored the winning run on a wild pitch.
Up Next: The series concludes on Sunday at 1 p.m. Tucker Alch will start for the Owls against the Tigers' Caden Robinson.

Notes
- Rice fell to 9-22, 6-12 at home, and 2-6 in series.
- Memphis has captured the last two season series with the Owls, both at Reckling. The Tigers took two-of-three in 2013 and the first two in the renewal of the series this year and have evened the all-time record at Reckling in the regular season (6-6).
- All nine starters for Rice collected a hit in a game for the first time this season.
- Rice turned a pair of double plays in the game to increase its total to 34, one more than the Owls had in 2023. They came into the weekend leading the AAC and ranked sixth nationally in double plays.
- Robert Fernandez and Garrett Stratton combined to throw five shutout innings in relief. In the first two games of the series, Owls' relievers have allowed one run in 12.1 innings (0.72 ERA) with six hits, six walks and 12 strikeouts.
- Fernandez struck out a career-high four in four innings.
- Rank's RBI double extended his hitting streak at Reckling to 12 games.
- Dukes two hits on Saturday along with his three hits on Friday gave him back-to-back multi-hit games for the second time in his career.
- Devenny has hit in seven of his last eight starts.

- Manny Garza threw out a pair of baserunners in a game for the first time this season and now has 10. He came into the weekend tied for the AAC lead.
