MIAMI, Florida — Rice women's tennis fell to No. 29 FIU, 4-0, on Friday at the FIU Tennis Courts.
Doubles: Senior Federica Trevisan and graduate senior Chie Kezuka fought to a 4-2 lead at the first position against the nation's 52nd-ranked doubles duo. Panther wins at the second and third positions, however, clinched the opening point for the hosts.
Singles: In singles action, a pair of straight-set wins at the top two spots plus a three-set win at the third position ultimately clinched the win for FIU. Junior Saara Orav was in the early stages of a decisive third set when the match was clinched, while Kezuka bounced back after falling in a first-set tiebreak to lead, 5-2, in the second frame. Freshman Nithesa Selvaraj also led, 5-4, in the second frame in her bid to force a third set at the sixth position.
Up Next: Rice remains in Miamia to face No. 52 South Florida on Saturday, April 6, at noon before concluding the three-match trip in the Sunshine State at No. 64 FAU on Monday, April 8, at 9:30 a.m.
