BOSTON – Alexander Slinkman represented the Rice men's track and field team with a tremendous showing at the NCAA Championships, placing seventh in the pole vault. The mark earned him First Team All-American honors.
The mark is Slinkman's highest finish at the NCAA meet and his first-career First Team All-American honor. Slinkman is now a four-time All-American.
After missing his first two attempts at the opening height, Slinkman cleared the 5.30m bar and later cleared the 5.40m bar on his first attempt. The clearance clinched him a spot on the podium, where he eventually would finish seventh.
Post-Meet Reaction - Head Coach Jon Warren
"When Slinkman missed his first two bars, that was stressful. However, he rebounded well and cleared the very next one too. You never know what will happen here, this is the highest competition level. I am very proud of him to bounce back from conference and earn First Team All-American honors. Every year, this is one of the greatest sporting events in the world."
