Amata, Welsh Have Great Showings at Texas Relays

AUSTIN – Sam Welsh and Ese Amata represented the Rice men's track and field team well at the 96th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, both securing top-10 finishes in their respective events. The Owls will be back with a full team showing at Texas A&M next week.
In his first jumps of the outdoor season, Amata finished seventh in the high jump with a clearance of 2.11m. The mark ranks him first in the AAC, tied for seventh in the NCAA West and tied for 22nd in the NCAA.
Over at the discus, Welsh finished fourth with a season-best throw of 59.68m. The mark currently ranks him first in the AAC, third in the NCAA West and fifth in the NCAA.
