Men's Track & Field Record 14 Podium Finishes at Victor Lopez Classic

HOUSTON, Texas — The Rice men's track & field team hosted the 41st annual Victor Lopez Classic at Wendel D. Ley Track & Holloway Field. The Owls recorded 14 podium finishes on the weekend, including sweeps of the podium in both the 1,500 and 10,000 meters.
In the 10,000 meters, sophomore Ben Tijerina claimed the title with a time of 30:35.09. Junior Wesley Wright and sophomore Filippo Aldrovandi filled the remaining spots on the podium with times of 31:11.07 and 31:14.88, respectively. In the 1,500 meters, junior Andrew Murray paced the field with a time of 3:44.91, while sophomore Gus Gannon and senior Elliot Metcalf finished second and third with respective times of 3:46.38 and 3:46.64.
Senior Shaun Kerry provided Rice's final event title of the weekend, winning the hammer throw with a distance of 66.11 meters (216-10).
