Golf in Fourth-Place after Day One of All-American Intercollegiate

HUMBLE, Texas — The Rice Golf team is in fourth-place after two rounds of the All-American Intercollegiate, played at the Golf Club of Houston's Tournament Course.
The Owls carded a pair of 294's to finish the day at +12, four strokes behind second-place UNLV and Texas Tech. Sam Houston leads the team competition at +4.
Senior Blake Benson and freshman Reggie Zhu both head into the final round in the Top 15. Benson is tied for eighth-place at even par, opening with a 74 before firing a 70 to tie his career-low 36-hole score of 144. Zhu is at +1, tied for 11th-place. He began the day with a 70 before closing with a 75.
Benson now has three rounds of par or better this year and eight in his career, while Zhu has eight this year.
Sophomore Lukas Boandl is tied for 42nd-place at +6 after rounds of 76-74. Junior Raghav Chugh and fifth-year senior Jay Kirchdorfer are tied for 47th-place at +7. Chugh carded rounds of 76-75, while Kirchdorfer went 74-77.
In the individual tournament, played on the Member's Course, freshman Jaivir Pande is tied for 31st-place at +15 after rounds of 79-80. Senior Rodrigo Martin carded rounds of 81-80 to sit + 17 in a 34th-place tie and freshman Braeden Hoyt is tied for 37th-place at +19 after rounds of 85-78.
UNLV's Yuki Moriyama leads the individual tournament at -4, one stroke in front of Sam Houston's Bret Gray and Yale's Ben Carpenter.
