Men’s Golf in Second-Place Midway Through Second Round of Bayou City Collegiate Classic

Houston, Texas — The Rice Men's Golf team sits in second-place midway through the second round of the weather-shortened Bayou City Collegiate Classic, played Monday at the par-72, 7,184-yard Westwood Golf Club.

Lightning halted the tournament for almost two-and-a-half hours halfway through the second round.

The Owls began the day with a nine-under 279 to lead after the first round. They were three-under before the stoppage, to sit at -11, one stroke behind UT-Arlington for the lead.

Redshirt senior Davis Byrd is in fourth-place at -6. He began the day by firing a 69, the best round of his career. Through 10 holes of the second round, he's -3. The 69 is his first career round in the 60's. It's also his second round of par or better this year and the ninth of his career.

Redshirt senior Henry Daly is tied for sixth-place at -4. He fired a first round 69, and is one-under through 11 holes of the second round. The 69 is his second round in the 60's this year and the 13^th of his career. It is also his third round of par or better this season and the 27^th of his career.

Senior Reggie Zhu and junior Nolan Kuszyk are tied for 23^rd-place at even par. Zhu carded a 70 in the first round, but is two-over through 11 holes in the second. Kuszyk posted a 72, and is even through 12 holes. Zhu has three rounds of par or better this year and 37 in his career. The 72 was Kuszyk's first round or par or better this year, and the 25^th of his career.

Sophomore Raines Watson is tied for 38^th-place at +3. He posted a 71 in the first round, but is four-over through 11 holes in the second. The 71 was his second round of par or better this year and the 17^th of his career.

Senior Jaivir Pande leads a group of four golfers playing as individuals, firing a bogey-free 68 in first round that helped him sit in a tie for sixth-place at -4. In the second round, he's even through nine holes. The 68 is his sixth round in the 60's and 12^th round of par or better in his career.

Freshman Alex Kerins began his first career tournament with an even par 72, but he's two-over through 13 holes in the second round to sit in a 34^th-place tie.

Junior William Johnson is tied for 48^th-place at +4. He opened with a 76, and is even par in the second round through 11 holes.

Senior Braeden Hoyt carded an 80 in the first round and is one-over through 11 holes in the second to sit in a tie for 76^th-place.

Texas' Sterling Hurd leads the individual competition at -9, two strokes in front of Valparaiso's Rob Politza and Middle Tennessee's Connor Henry.

NEXT UP

Schools will complete the second round beginning at 8 a.m., with the final round beginning immediately after. The Owls are paired with student-athletes from Abilene Christian and Sam Houston.
