After traveling nearly 5,000 miles to play four games, Rice is in the midst of an eight-game stretch of games within the city of Houston that will involve less than 25 miles of travel. The Owls opened the slate with a three-game series against Houston Christian, followed by a home-and-home with Houston to open the 2024 Silver Glove series. It concludes with the Owls AAC debut by hosting Tulane on March 22-24.

Silver Glove Series
Rice and Houston began competing for the Silver Glove in 1998 and Rice has won the series in 18 of the previous 25 seasons while posting 62-33 record. The series has seen 34 of the 95 games decided by two runs or less, with Rice holding a 22-12 advantage. There have been 14 Silver Glove shutouts (Rice 9, Houston 4) with the most recent a 1-0 Cougar win at home on 4/10/18. After Houston left Conference USA prior to 2014, the three-game series had been played with home games on each campus and the final game at Constellation Field through 2019. The series returned solely to each campus in 2022 when the Houston Astros purchased the Sugarland Skeeters franchise to use as the home base for their Triple-A team.
All-Silver Glovers
Five current Owls have been named to the All-Silver Glove team in their careers, including Jack Riedel, who has been named in each of the last two years. Parker Smith and Manny Garza joined Riedel on the team in 2022 while Pierce Gallo and Ben Royo join him are returners from the 2023 team. The team is selected in a vote by members of the media after the series.
Doubling Up the Outs
The Owls lead the AAC and rank fifth nationally with 22 double plays in the first 19 games. They rank seventh nationally with 1.16 per game. They finished 199th in the nation last year with 33 twin killings and 230th overall with an average of .57 per game. The last time the Owls averaged more than a double play per game was 2013 when they turned 69 in 66 games (1.08). They ranked sixth nationally in total double plays that year and 10th in average per game.

Jack Riedel is tied for 3rd in the AAC with six home runs, ranks fourth with .32 homers per game, and is fifth with 49 total bases...
