Benson Ties Career Best to Close Louisiana Classics

Lafayette, La. — Senior Blake Benson tied his career-low round, firing a 69 in the final round of the Louisiana Classics.
Benson played bogey-free golf. He carded birdies on the fourth and seventh holes, then opened the back nine with a birdie on the 10th before closing his round with eight straight pars. Benson tied for 58th-place at +8. The season-best 69 was his second round of par or better this year and the seventh of his career.
Fifth-year senior Jay Kirchdorfer tied for 32nd-place at +3 after posting a 77. Junior Raghav Chugh shot a 75 to finish +4, in a tie for 38th-place.
Freshman Reggie Zhu carded an even par 72 to close at +8 and tied for 58th-place. It was his seventh round of par or better this season. Sophomore Lukas Boandl tied for 68th-place at +9 after his third straight 75.
The Rice Golf team carded a +3 291 finish +13 in 11th-place.
No. 28 Texas A&M won the team tournament at -31, 17 strokes in front of Sam Houston. Texas A&M's Phichaksn Maichon earned medalist honors at -18, eight strokes in front of Hunter Thomson of Michigan.
