
Owens-Barnett Named AAC Player of the Week

HOUSTON – After a career night and leading Rice to a pair of victories last week, Rice sophomore Jazzy Owens-Barnett was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
This is the first honor for Owens-Barnett's career and Rice's first player of the week honoree this season. Rice has had three AAC Honor Roll honorees (Dominique Ennis x2, Destiny Jackson).
Owens-Barnett led the Owls to a 2-0 week with a 69-59 win at South Florida and a 78-66 win against Tulsa. Owens-Barnett dropped a career-high 21 points with a career-high four three-pointers. She followed that performance by leading Rice with 17 points against Tulsa.
She had a stretch of six-consecutive made three-pointers, going 4-of-4 at USF and converting her first two attempts against Tulsa. On the week, Owens-Barnett shot 50% (11-of-22) from the floor, 86% (6-of-7) from three and 91% (10-of-11) from the free throw line.
Since the start of conference play, Owens-Barnett leads the AAC in free throw percentage at 92%, with teammate Destiny Jackson in second at 88%. This season, she is fourth on the team in scoring (7.9) and second in made free throws (59).
The Owls will be back in action Wednesday night at Tudor Fieldhouse against East Carolina. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
