
Women's Tennis Heads to Louisiana for Pair of Matches

In Brief: Rice women's tennis is slated for a pair of matches in the Pelican State. The Owls will take on Louisiana in Lafayette on Friday, Feb. 2, at 4 p.m., before traveling to Baton Rouge to take on LSU on Sunday, Feb. 4, at noon. Sunday's match will run simultaneously with Rice men's tennis against the Tigers.

The Owls: Rice dropped a pair of matches during the ITA Kickoff Weekend in College Station last week. The Owls fell to TCU, 4-1, in the opening round before losing a nailbiter against Northwestern, 4-3. Senior Federica Trevisan led the Owls in the effort, posting a pair of straight-sets victories at the first position in the two matches. Rice also picked up singles victories from graduate senior Chie Kezuka and sophomore Darya Schwartzman against the Wildcats.
The Opposition: Rice is 11-1 all-time against Louisiana, including a 2-0 mark in Lafayette. The Owls won, 7-0, at Louisiana on Feb. 8, 2009, and also won on the road, 9-0, on Feb. 25, 1983. Rice has won eight straight in the series, last falling to the Ragin' Cajuns, 4-5, on Oct. 9, 1986. Rice won the most recent meeting, 7-0, on Jan. 29, 2023, at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
Rice is 9-11 all-time against LSU and is 4-6 on the road in the series. The Owls won the most recent meeting, 4-0, on Feb. 20, 2022 in Houston, snapping a five-match losing streak in the series. The Tigers have won the last three matchups in Baton Rouge, with Rice last winning at LSU in a 6-1 victory on Feb. 22, 2015.
