Down Blinn 13-6
Tobias Motley homered and drove in five runs while Lorenzo Rios and Austin Eppley added homers of their own as Rice downed Blinn 13-6 in the Owls first exhibition game of the fall.
Blinn touched Rice starter J.D. McCracken for a run in the top of the first on a pair of doubles, but the Owls responded immediately with three runs of their own in the bottom of the first.
Colin Robson opened the inning with a walk stole second. Eppley drove him him in with a single to right and then scored on Rijos homer to right to give the Owls a 3-1 lead.
Blinn scored four runs in the fourth to take a 5-3 in the fourth and held that lead until the seventh.
Gunnett Carlson and Javier Vazquez opened the inning with singles and Jacob Devenny loaded the bases with a walk. Hiram Bocachica's fielder's choice brought home Carlson and Motely cleared the bases with a blast to center to put the Owls in front to stay.
Eppley then crushed a long home run to right to close out the inning.
Motely added a two-run single later in the game to close out the scoring for Rice.
McCracken worked 3.1 innings before reaching his pitch count to lead off the night for Rice pitchers, giving up two runs, walking one and striking out three. He was followed by Von Baker, Tom Vincent, Jack Ben-Shoshan and Matt Zatopek, who closed the night with two scoreless innings and four strikeouts.
The Owls will close out their fall exhibition schedules next Friday when they host McLennan Community College at 5:30.
