HOUSTON – The Rice soccer team fell at home to Charlotte 1-0 Sunday afternoon at Holloway Field. The Owls fall to 11-4-2 (5-3-1 AAC) on the season, while Charlotte moves to 3-7-7 (2-2-5 AAC).

The Owls honored the team's nine seniors before the game: Catarina Albuquerque, Natalie Diaz, Mariana Elizondo, Mikala Furuto, Natalie Gorji, Faith Hutchins, Kat Lazor, Allison Padron and Gabriela Quintero.

How It Happened
The Owls got the offense making strides early, with Allie Love and Jules Johnston rattling off shots in the opening minutes. The 49ers had several shots of their own throughout the first half, but both sides couldn't get a quality shot on the goal, as the sides went into the half scoreless.

Leah Chancey had the first opportunity on offense with a shot off a free kick three minutes into the second half, but the Charlotte keeper was there to make the save. Taylor Rish later had a chance, but her shot went right into the arms of the 49er goalie. After Faith Hutchins made back-to-back saves in a span of 10 seconds, Charlotte quickly gathered the ball and sent a shot into the back of the net in the 79th minute. The Charlotte defense held the rest of the way as the Owls fell 1-0.
