2023 All-Conference USA Women’s Tennis Team
Rice placed four student-athletes on the 2023 All-Conference USA Women's Tennis Team as selected in a vote of league coaches and announced on Wednesday.
Allison Zipoli was named to the singles first team and joined with Diae El Jardi as a first-team selection in doubles. Federica Trevisan joined Zipoli as a first-team selection in singles while Darya Schwartzman earned all-freshman honors.
This marks the 11th time in the last 12 seasons that the Owls have had at least two first-team selections in singles.
Zipoli posted a 7-9 singles mark while playing at the first line for the first time in her career. She was 2-1 in conference action in the regular season and 1-1 and the C-USA Championship and held a 5-3 in the third set of her third match at the Championship. She provided two of the four points in Rice's win at #30 Charlotte on 3/19, combining with El Jardi to surge late and clinch the doubles point, then bouncing back from a second-set loss to score the Owls' second point after the 49ers had taken a 3-1 lead. Zipoli and El Jardi rose to as high as #80 in the ITA doubles rankings during the season, highlighted by a 6-2 win over SMU's #54 Taylor Johnson and Jackie Nylander 6-2 on 4/8.
El Jardi is a repeat honoree on the first team and her third straight all-conference honor in doubles. She and Maria Budin were first-team selections last year and earned second-team honors in 2021.
Trevisan tied for the team lead with 11 wins in singles in dual action, including a 6-1 against C-USA opponents, including a 3-0 record at the Conference USA Championship. She was 4-1 in tiebreakers (all in the first set) and won all five matches that began with a tiebreaker. She was also named to the All-CUSA first team as a freshman in 2021.
Schwartzman closed her first season with a 9-5 record in singles and 9-3 in doubles. She was 3-1 in three-set matches and posted a 2-0 at the C-USA Championship and was tied in her third match.
