
Fisher Earns C-USA Spirit of Service Award

DALLAS, TX – Rice women's basketball athlete Malia Fisher was named Rice's recipient of the C-USA Spirit of Service Award for winter 2022-23, the league office announced this afternoon.
C-USA's Spirit of Service Award is given to one student athlete from all 11-member schools and is presented three times throughout the year. The honor recognizes student athletes with significant community service endeavors, good academic standing and participation in their sport.
This season, Fisher was named to the C-USA Second Team after playing in 29 games, averaging 11.8 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. She also led the team with five double-doubles. Fisher scored a career high 22 points against LA Tech and had the game-winning steal and layup in the closing seconds.
Fisher, a sophomore Spanish and business major, currently holds a 3.60 GPA and was a C-USA Academic Medalist and a Rice Honor Roll Recipient.
Fisher has helped and volunteered with the Houston Food Bank, Creative Dreams Center, Mental Health Awareness Week planning, SAAC Welcome Back event planning and SAAC Movie night planning. She is also a member of the C-USA SAAC Health and Safety Subcommittee and was a participant in the College Career Readiness panel.
