El Jardi Leads Owls to Senior Day Shutout

Houston: Diae El Jardi earned her first career victory at the first singles line and delivered the clinch point in her final home tennis match as Rice defeated Prairie View 4-0 at the George R. Brown Tennis Center on Sunday.
Doubles: Rice honored Sydney Berlin, Maria Budin and El Jardi in Senior Day ceremonies before play began and El Jardi and Allison Zipoli raced to a swift 6-0 win at the first line once play began. Saara Orav and Darya Schwartzman followed closely behind with a 6-0 win of their own to give the Owls the first point of the day.
Singles: Berlin quickly added the second point of the day, not losing a game in a straight-set win at the sixth line. Freshman Marte Lambrecht improved to 6-1 in dual singles action with a 6-1, 6-0 win at the fifth line and El Jardi followed with a 6-3, 6-1 decision to earn her first career victory at the first line to clinch the match.
Up Next: The Owls will learn their seeding for the upcoming Conference USA Championship at the start of the week. Play begins on Thursday in Denton, Texas.
