
Owls Roll Into Rematch with Charlotte

Denton: Rice rolled to a 4-0 win over host North Texas on Friday to advance to the semifinals of the 2023 Conference USA Women's Tennis Championship at the Waranch Tennis Center. Rice has advanced to the semifinals in each of its previous 16 C-USA Women's Tennis Championships and has won seven league titles.
Doubles: Maria Budin and Federica Trevisan set the early path with a 6-2 win at the second line and Diae El Jardi and Allison Zipoli followed shortly after with a 6-2 win of their own to clinch the first point of the day.
Singles: The Owls head on to their doubles momentum by winning four of six first sets in singles and closing out decisions on three of them without allowing the Mean Green to build upon their success on two courts and turn those into points. Darya Schwartzman closed out her first C-USA Championship singles match in straight sets to pick up the second point of the day and Zipoli and Trevisan followed with wins at the top two lines to five Rice its eighth consecutive win over North Texas (four in C-USA Championship play).
Up Next: The 58th-ranked Owls, who improved to 12-8 on the year and 36-9 all-time at the C-USA Championship, are set for a rematch with #41 Charlotte at noon on Saturday looking to advance to their 10th C-USA Women's Tennis championship match. After defeating North Texas in a dual on Charlotte's home courts the day before (March 18), the Owls and 49ers battled for over three hours before Rice emerged with a 4-3 win. Rice is 3-0 all-time against Charlotte and this will be the first time the teams will meet in the postseason.
