Fast Start Propels Houston Past Rice

Senior Day at noon on Sunday
Houston: Houston jumped to the early lead with a win in doubles and held off a strong challenge by Rice to down the Owls 4-2 on Saturday afternoon at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility.
Doubles: Saara Orav and Darya Schwartzman raced to a 6-1 win at the third line to give the Owls a strong start in doubles, but Houston took early leads on the remaining courts and never relinquished them to take the opening point.
Singles: Houston carried the doubles momentum into singles, taking four of six first sets. Diae El Jardi held her first set advantage to win in straight sets and answer UH's win at the third line, but the Cougars added their third point with a win at the first line. While Saara Orav and Marte Lambrecht fought back from first-set tiebreakers to force third sets, UH did the same at the fourth line and after Orav scored a second point for the Owls with a win at the fifth line, Houston closed the match out with a win at four.
Up Next: The Owls will close out their 2023 at noon on Sunday when they host Prairie View for Senior Day.
