Rice with Strong Showing at Victor Lopez Classic

HOUSTON – The Rice men's track and field team had several top finishes at the 40th annual Victor Lopez Classic at Rice University's Wendel D. Ley Track & Holloway Field, one of two home meets this season for the Owls.
Rice got its first win of the meet with Shaun Kerry claiming the hammer throw with Cal Abdulky and Nick Hicks finishing in second and fourth, respectively. Sam Welsh and Samuel Woodley provided a 1-2 punch for the Owls in the discus, while Ese Amata took second in the high jump. Elliot Metcalf wrapped up the event titles for Rice, claiming the 1500-meter title.
The Owls had 20 top-10 finishers with 11 placing in the top five.
