Cal Poly and William & Mary Up Next for Rice

THE DETAILS: The Rice men's tennis team will host Cal Poly and William & Mary this weekend, looking to extend a six-match winning streak. The Owls will host Cal Poly at 5 p.m. on Friday and William & Mary at 11 am Sunday as part of a combined match with the Rice women's team who is facing Brown.

THE OWLS: Rice returned to the national rankings this week (#73) and comes into today's match riding a six-match winning streak to move to 9-7 on the season.
THE OPPONENTS: Cal Poly is 3-6 his year and is coming off a 6-1 loss to Yale on March 17. William & Mary is 6-6 heading into a weekend Texas trip that includes matches at UTSA on Friday and Cal Poly (at GRBTC) on Saturday.
THE SERIES: This is the first meeting between the Owls and Mustangs in men's tennis. The schools last met in volleyball with Cal Poly winning 3-1 in 2016. The schools have also met once in men's basketball (Rice won in 2008), women's tennis (Rice won in 2013) and in baseball (Rice leads the series 4-2).
GRBTC: Rice is 77-35 in dual action since moving into their current home in the fall of 2014. They are 9-7 in C-USA play and 6-12 all-time against ranked opponents.
Doubling Up: Sunday's combined match is the third of four this season that are combined women's tennis dual. They will join together one last time on April 8 when the men host UTSA and the women take on SMU.
NOTABLE:
• Rice is 11-5 in doubles this season and has a combined record of 25-14 so far this year. The Owls are 7-4 when winning the point, 2-3 when dropping the first point.
UP NEXT: The Owls will travel to College Station next Saturday to take on Texas A&M in the Owls' final road match of the regular season.
