Owls Host Roadrunners and #10 Texas this weekend

Houston: Elizabeth Schmidt's Rice Owls continue their five-match homestand this weekend by hosting UTSA on Friday and 10th ranked Texas on Saturday at the George R. Brown Tennis Center. First serves for both matches is scheduled for 11 a.m.

Promotionally Speaking: The first 50 fans at the UTSA match on Friday will receive a free breakfast taco. Saturday is Family Day and will feature a bounce house on Court 14. The first 100 students will receive a free breakfast taco and a t-shirt.
About the Owls: Rice is 4-4 so far this season, 3-1 at GRBTC and 1-0 in Conference USA after opening the C-USA schedule with a 7-0 win over FAU on February 19.
UTSA: The Roadrunners 8-5 this season, coming off a 4-3 loss to Incarnate Word last Saturday. Rice and UTSA have two common opponents so far this year, with both schools defeating Lamar and Sam Houston. Rice has won all 17 previous meetings between the schools dating back to 1986, including all three played at George R. Brown Tennis Center. The Owls took a 6-0 win last year in Huntsville.
Texas: The Longhorns are 8-2 this season and currently ranked 10th in ITA's Division I Women's Team Computerized Rankings sponsored by Tennis-Point. The two-time defending NCAA champions opened the season ranked No. 1 and won their first seven matches before falling to Iowa State in the second round of the ITA National Team Indoor Championship. They dropped a 5-2 decision to #22 Stanford in Austin in their most recent match. Texas leads the series 22-2 and has won the last three. Rice won for the first time in school history, 4-3 in Austin in 2013 and three years later the Owls took a 4-3 decision at GRBTC. The schools have split the two meetings here, with Texas winning the most recent match, 6-1 in 2019.
