Owls Prevail in First Exhibition over HCU

HOUSTON — Jack Riedel, Guy Garibay, Jr. and Trey Duffield all hit home runs to lead Rice to an 11-6 victory over Houston Christian in its first exhibition of the fall.
Duffield was 3-5 with an RBI while scoring three times. Kyte McDonald was 2-4 with two runs and two RBI. Garibay was 1-2 with a pair of walks and RBI while scoring three times and Ben Royo was 2-4 and drove in two. A total of nine pitchers saw action on Friday, led by Tyler Hamilton who worked 3.0 scoreless innings, striking out four while allowing just one walk. Tom Vincent fanned three while allowing just a walk in an inning and third. Jack Ben-Shoshan and Ryland Urbanczyk each struck out a pair.
The Owls conclude their fall practice schedule next week with their second exhibition game when they host McClennan Junior College at 5 p.m. on Friday, November 3.
